My voice, our equal future

Day of the Girl Child

On 11 October, GLAM will join many others around the world to celebrate girls everywhere as they inspire, break boundaries and take charge of their own future. Day of the Girl – a day dedicated to raising awareness of the obstacles that girls face and also to promote girls’ empowerment and the protection of their human rights. This year, the theme is, My voice, our equal future.

Although the world has made great strides towards gender equality, undoubtedly, we still have a long way to go. “None of us will see gender parity in our lifetimes, and nor likely will many of our children” – that’s the sobering finding of the Global Gender Gap Report 2020, which reveals that gender parity will not be attained for 99.5 years.

Shocking Stats from UNICEF

Around the world, 132 million girls are out of school, including 34.3 million of primary school age, 30 million of lower-secondary school age, and 67.4 million of upper-secondary school age. In countries affected by conflict, girls are more than twice as likely to be out of school than girls living in non-affected countries.

How GLAM is making a difference

Motivated by a personal experience that changed the course of her life, Renée La Londe, CEO and Founder of iTalent Digital, created GLAM to target girls early in life so they have time to get on the right path for science and technical tracks in high school.

GLAM inspires girls ages 8-12 to aim for senior leadership roles and piques their interest in the world of tech.

“Now more than ever, we have to encourage every girl to pursue her dreams, to feel the power within her voice and celebrate who she is. Our primary goal at GLAM is to help each girl to feel empowered to define and articulate her vision and provide her with the tools needed to achieve it.”
